Demons into Angels: Hiroshi Sugimoto's miniature fireworks

Hiroshi Sugimoto was distracted by the "fireworks in miniature" of static electricity that interferes with the process of meticulous darkroom produced in his studio in New York. But, he tells Mary Panzer, the source of his frustration became his new inspiration, after a visit to Lacock Abbey, once home of the father of photography, William Fox Talbot.

Inside, it's quiet, orderly and busy, Sugimoto office at one end, the dark room to another. In between, on the walls of large white prints are a bit excessive, familiar images of past projects, and selected tables are new job that he refuses to discuss.

This manufacturer of sensual photographs austere conceptual art tells good stories about his work, humorous, disarmingly frank.In one hour, it offers a tour of his darkroom and studio, and describes two interlocking projects, fields of lightning [1-6], and photogenic drawing [7-8].
