How Do I Get Surround Sound from my PS3 without HDMI
Dear Expert,
I have a surround sound system which is about 7 years. This is a Sony AV (DDW660 Sony HT-). We have a 50 "Plasma TV (Panasonic Model # TC-P42U1). We recently purchased a PS3. I can not get the surround sound to connect to it. Do you have any suggestions for me that we could have necessary cables and how to connect all? Please let me know.

For these items, you should probably use the PS3 optical digital output connected to fiber optic surround sound system with digital input so you can full 5.1 channel surround sound from DVD and Blu-ray. Everything you need for this is an audio cable digital fiber optic like this on Amazon. Once you have the correct cable, you may need to adjust some settings in the Settings menu of the PS3.
I think the PS3 has yet to support simultaneous analog and digital audio output. You must choose one or the other in order for this to work.The specific setting you need is in "Settings ... Sound settings Audio Output Settings ..." - Select the digital output (optical).
Also, under "BD / DVD Settings" in the menu settings make PS3 the optical digital output is set to "bitstream" not to "PCM". This will pass the Dolby Digital and DTS to your receiver to decode its true multichannel. If set to "PCM" then you will only get two channel PCM sound via the optical connection.
I assume you're already using your TV sound surround system, but if not, you must also connect the analog or digital TV to an unused input on the analog or digital surround sound unit, so you can use the system's speakers instead of the speakers for television programs.
